RCAL provides medical equipment on loan to individuals who cannot afford to buy their own or whose insurance does not cover the cost.  We loan out equipment that has been donated to us on a short and long-term basis. Three months is the usual length of time we loan out our equipment; this can always be extended if needed.

To take out equipment on loan, you will first need to call to see if we have what you need (we loan out on a first come, first serve basis).  If we have what you need, we will make an appointment for you to come in and pick it up. We do ask for a small fee for the use of our equipment; $10 for small items such as walkers, canes, etc., $15 for items such as rollators and knee walkers, $30 for larger items such as wheelchairs, and $50 for ramps. Please note that no person will be denied equipment for a lack of ability to pay this fee.

The following loan closet procedures have changed in response to the health and safety concerns of the current pandemic:

  • We can no longer accept donations or returns in our lobby. Items must be brought directly to the loan closet building.

  • Appointments are now required for borrowing, returning or donating to the loan closet.

  • When you arrive for your appointment, please wait in your car and call us to say you are here. We will meet you at the loan closet.

A partial list of items we usually have on hand:

  • Bath Transfer Benches

  • Canes

  • Commodes

  • Crutches

  • Portable Ramps

  • Raised Toilet Seats

  • Shower Seats

  • Walkers

If you are interested in borrowing any of the listed equipment or donating used equipment (including items not listed), please contact RCAL at 845-331-0541.

If RCAL does not have the equipment you are looking for, visit the New York State Assistive Technology (TRAID) Program website. TRAID-IN is a statewide service that connects people who need equipment with those wanting to donate or sell equipment.

You can also check out www.usedHME.com if you are looking to buy or sell used equipment.
